2024-2025

Ideologies and constructions creep into the lower layers of the food chain like a paralyzing poison. The working class, depicted as invasive species; the fallow deer (competitive and headstrong) and the rabbit (passive, obedient and fearful) are oppressed and played off against their fellow animals. Not by overt submission but by manipulatively conditioning them into roles as consumptive and reproductive instruments of our ego system.

This system only benefits the predatory ruling class, represented by the voracious, invasive Burmese python.

The complicit part of the working class is used by the python and becomes ensnared in its insidious dominance and infinite expansion.

Soft Paws, Smooth Brain

The rabbit design, crafted from up-cycled rabbit fur with sleeves that begin at the ears, symbolises the phenomenon of acting based on what one hears - driven by fear, financial power, and manipulative subjugation.
The rabbits are passive, fearful instruments, afraid of their own identity and obediently doing what they are told. Those who willingly live as prey and products sustain the status quo by reproducing, both literally and figuratively.

But what will be left of you when you can no longer fulfill the role that has been handed to you?
Buckle Up Economics

The invasive fallow deer design, is crafted from upcycled leather, a repurposed blouse, and a second hand antler of a fallow deer. This assemblage of pockets and buckles embodies the narrative of competition and violence, driven by a system obsessed with money, power, and status. It raises poignant questions: Whose pockets are truly being filled as you slowly crumble under the weight of your own decline? And what, or who, must you sacrifice to ascend just one rung higher on the social ladder?

Leather Boa, Constrictor.

The Burmese python design symbolizes the stealthy, predatory dominance and insatiable greed of those in power within this (neoliberal) ecosystem. Just as the Burmese python freely satisfies its voracious appetite in the Everglades, the ruling class monopolizes markets, manipulates through media, and hoards resources.
While these gluttons escalate exploitation and pollution, their fearful prey no longer resist the ruling class or its worldview. The deer and rabbits now live in a system of deep entanglement, shaping their lives around the python’s grip.
The symbiotic bonds the prey once shared with nature and themselves have been severed by a silent, suffocating chokehold.
